Background
My interest in the helping professions began with an encounter with a school counsellor who supported me through a difficult time early in my life. The words that made up our conversation have long faded, but the impact of his kindness and care will always remain a part of who it is I am today, and how I wish to show up for others. While I have learned many theories and frameworks throughout my professional training for understanding what ails and aids people, the most impactful lessons about healing, trust, and presence have been gifted to me through the felt experience of relationships and community. I am truly grateful for each and every encounter with clients, mentors, teachers, and loved ones throughout my journey in becoming a healer, and in my own journey of healing and growth.
I care deeply about the wellbeing, safety, and thriving of all peoples and communities, including peoples of colour, sexual and gender minority peoples, and people who have experienced violence and oppression. My own lived experiences as a first-generation, Taiwanese-Canadian woman have taught me some valuable lessons about the impacts of intergenerational trauma, racism, sexism, and othering, along with how these impacts can and do exist side-by-side with joy, courage, deep resilience, and love.
I have come to believe - and know - that our present-day selves are inextricably connected to our collective ancestors and descendants to come. May we hold this expansive arc in view as we move towards healing and thriving, individually and collectively.
